Interior Design is a versatile career that involves designing aesthetically pleasing interiors along with optimal utilization of the available space. The course involves Practical-based learning backed by design theories that will help the students to understand and explore interior design at a larger perspective. At INIFD, We focus on preparing our students by
giving them a thorough knowledge of the subject and equip them enough to face real-time challenges in the Interior design industry.
3 Year Specialization
The subject exposes the students to the basics of design and the fundamentals of design theory. Students will learn to understand and appreciate design by exploring and applying the various elements and principles of design including color and color theory. The study of human factors like ergonomics and anthropometry will be an integral part of the course so that students will be able to understand the relation between the natural and the built environment.
Visual Communication and Presentation:
This subject forms the foundation of an interior designer’s work as it helps the designer to come up with and communicate original ideas. The subject includes the basics of technical drafting, illustrative sketching, and presentation of work using various media.
Studio for Residential Space:
This subject introduces students to the concepts of designing residential spaces. Students will learn how to conceptualize design and execute it using various techniques. Spaces planning, defining finishes and materials for space as well as making working and presentation drawings will be an integral part of the course.
Interior Construction and Detailing:
In this subject, the students will learn the importance of various types of constructional details as applicable to interior spaces. The study of various parts of a building and their role in the overall structure will form the basis of this course.
Essentials of Materials and Systems:
It is very important for an interior designer to have a good understanding of the materials and finishes available and being used in interiors. This subject helps students to learn about the properties and usage of various materials available in the market today. Along with these students also learn about building systems such as sanitary, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.

Year - 1
Evolution of Interior Design:
This subject aims to inculcate awareness and appreciation among the students of the evolution of interior design and furniture, their growth and development through the ages. This would be a theory based course and would focus on the various components that students would study and apply in their creative efforts.
Studio for Work Space:
This subject focuses on planning and designing of a working or an office space. Students will learn the fundamentals of the various types of working environments and how to design a functional and aesthetically appealing working space.
Studio for Retail and Store:
Retail designing is one of the most sought after skills required for an interior designing working on Commercial space design. In this subject, students learn retail psychology and how design influences the process of marketing and branding.
Studio for Cafe and Restaurant:
This subject exposes students to the field of hospitality design which includes cafes and restaurants among others. Students will learn to create an environment for various kinds of hospitality spaces such as themed restaurants, QSR, Fine Dining Restaurants and Cafeterias.
The Business of Interior Design:
It is very important for an interior designer to have an understanding of how to run a business and market his/her skills. In this subject, the students will also learn how to prepare estimates and write specifications for a design project.
The subject exposes the students to various processes involved in design development and also the basics of research and their tools
Bathrooms and kitchens have changed over time and have become as important as bedrooms and other living areas of homes. This subject will enable students to broaden their perspectives to design kitchens and bathrooms.
Future of Bathrooms and Kitchens:
Nowadays the traditional methods of spatial planning have seen a revival in the general public, so it is important for an interior designer to have a good understanding of these methods and their application. This subject gives an overview of the primary principles of Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui.
Applications of Vastu and Feng Shui:
The living spaces in all cities across the world are getting reduced because of urbanization and high property prices. People have to find multiple uses of the same spaces and furniture pieces to fulfill their living requirements. This subject exposes students to techniques and systems which can transform spaces but do not compromise on comfort or aesthetics. Companies around the world are designing furniture that disappears into walls, can be stowed away via remote control or even stored on the ceiling. Kids Furniture is another big aspect that will be covered.
Transformable Systems and Spaces:
A Portfolio is a compilation which showcases the work carried out by the student/designer. Students will learn about the various types of the portfolio which can be made and how to best present their work to prospective clients or employers.
